mac rebuild

About 8 months after installing Mac OS X Panther (10.3) I recently did a re-install. This was actually due to two completely different things converging: the first was that due to all my music and photos I wanted to increase my hard disc space, and secondly was that my iPod was refusing to sync and was generally unhappy. After two trips to the Genius Bar in the Ginza Apple Store, we’d decided the issue was my Mac, and not my iPod. So, I bought a 120Gb disk (yes, I know, it’s nowhere near as big as I could’ve gone, but it was in the budget I’d set) and moved my old 60Gb one to being a secondary drive. This meant that after install, I could copy all my stuff across – or at least all the stuff I wanted to keep. That 60Gb drive is now my storage and backup drive, which is great too. It also means that my iPod is funtional again.

It’s sometime nice to ust clear the old stuff off though, and you realise how many bits of software you had installed, which you just never used. It’s been good setting things up again as I now use my Mac, with all of my automation bits. it also dawned on me that I’ve had this macine for almost 2 years now! I suspect though, that when the day comes to upgrade, it may be to a laptop again.

For those who just have to know, the old drive was a
ST360021A, the new one is a ST3120026A. Yes, they’re both Seagates.
