This quote is from the amazing Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series by the late, great Douglas Adams. It’s a timeless series of books and radio shows, and if you haven’t listened to them, it’s worth the effort even if they started over 40 years ago now.
“Do you have any advice for a traveller?”
“Yes, get a beach house. It gives you somewhere to go … a beach house doesn’t even have to be on the beach, though the best ones are. We all like to congregate at boundary conditions … where land meets water, where Earth meets air, where body meets mind, where space meets time. We like to be on one side, and look at the other.”
Old Man Up The Pole, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Quintessential Phase, Douglas Adams.
These quotes are just bits I’ve seen around the place which I thought were interesting or potentially witty. I like this one as it’s likely true; I think we do like boundary conditions and contradictions. I myself have been happiest on these boundaries either on the beach, watching the waves, or snowboarding feeling like you’re going to fall into the sky.
