Well hello, fancy seeing you here, just over from 2021.

Yes, well let’s see how this one goes, and all the best to all those who happen upon this site! For the last couple of years I’ve tried to keep to about to a post a month - mostly I have, sometimes I haven’t. Even with COVID, there have been distractions - new jobs, new things going on in life but I’m planning to put something up each month, but only if I think there’s a bit of value. I’m also think of doing some photo posts from rides, or even…a video. Well let’s not over-blow things, but at the very least, all the best for this year, and I’m looking forward to getting more outdoor things going on, and more riding to be done.

明けましておめでとうございます。（令和４！）

Happy New Year 2017 (明けましておめでとうございます 2017). This year, for the first time in 9 years, I was back in the UK for Xmas and New Year, and much of that was on the road, so this post is a little late. Can’t believe it’s been that long.

New Year was a more UK style ‘drinks at midnight’ affair with the family, and though I was planning a hatsuhinode morning sunriseviewing, heavy cloud and rain put an end to that unfortunately. Also, the idea of getting up at that time after seeing the midnight over with a few drinks either side was always unlikely to happen.

We’re now back in Japan, so there are some New Year traditions to sort out this weekend, then it’s figuring out snowboarding trips and potentially, a change of motorbike.

All the best to everyone for 2017.

Another new year is upon us - 2015, or heisei ( 平成) 27 by the local system - so Happy New Year, or Akemashite Omedetougozaimasu as it is said. 明けましておめでとうございます 2015! (Or Ake Ome to it’s friends)

After a year off, this year I was back down to the ocean to watch the first sunrise, and whilst there was the usual numbers of people, and upbeat atmosphere to it, it was pretty much clouded over. Ah well, it still felt good and it still qualifies as ‘hatsuhi’, the first sunrise.

This year there was a little more organisation along the coastal road to stop people parking and obstructing traffic, the usual modded cars with insane exhausts, and the bosazoku on their modded motorbikes. All in all, it’s a good thing to go down and witness, and after watching the eastern horizon for a while, you can turn around, and watch the year’s first sunrise on the snow covered sides of Mt. Fuji.

Have a great year!

Another year indeed, this one here in Japan is Heisei 26 (平成 ２６年）and Oshogatsu (正月）is winding down a little, as people return home from trips, either for pleasure, or traditionally to family, the rubbish collection starts again, and people get back to work. I’ve likely gone through bits about this before ( 2013, 2012 for example). As is said here in Japan ‘明けましておめでとうございます’ (Akemashite omoedetougozaimasu).明けましておめでとうございます　２０１４！

Once again, we’ve spent time with family, got out and about exploring with the kids, and managed to avoid osechi ryouri again for reasons too convoluted to go into here. Also, this year, I didn’t go down to the beach for sunrise as I had the previous two New Years - I thought it was time for a break and spend the new year morning at home making breakfast. Next year I may well be back - I actually quite enjoyed it.

So Happy New Year to everyone, and hope 2014 is a good one for you.

Happy New Year 2012

For a bit of a change this year, I took my motorbike down to Enoshima Beach to watch the first sunrise of 2012 as it rose above Chiba and the Pacific Ocean. The were a few thousand people all around Enoshima on what was a crisp, but relatively clear New Year’s morning, with just a little low cloud. It was a great experience, and incredibly relaxing - lots of younger people, some who had brought BBQs, a few Police - mostly watching the sunrise too - and quite a few old people, offering the traditional prayer for the New Year as the the sun came up.

Here’s to a good and healthy 2012!

Happy New Year 2011, or 明けまして おめでとう ございます 2011! (Akemashite Omedetougozaimasu). Another year begins; for some reason a lot of people didn’t seem to like 2010, but for us, it worked out pretty well. As far as the site goes, it was a down followed by an up - I’d pretty much put it on a hiatus last Xmas after moving it to Wordpress.com and re-organising myself a bit online, and then in late July re-opening nanikore.net, but keeping brightblack.net pretty much offline. I decided I only had the time to post to one site, and brightblack was more of a historical relic. I may, later this year though, put that back online in it’s old HTML4 hand coded glory.

Anyway, back to the point, thanks to all those who have read, commented and mailed me about the posts in the last year, and to everyone anyway, have a great 2011.

明けましておめでとうございます, or Happy New Year for 2009. I’m hoping it’ll go as well as 2008 which overall I thought was a year where I got things done, closed, finished. Not bad given I still have a list of things I still need to get done!

Anyway, all the best to anyone passing by - roll on 2009.

明けましておめでとうございます 2008, or Happy New Year. Another year looms upon us like a great looming thing. Overall, I thought 2007 was pretty good, so I think I’m about ready to kick 2008 around for twelve months, and see how that feels.

See you there.

Ok, this post has been delayed by a couple of days, but I see that more as a good thing. Either way, I really wish everyone a good new year, and hope it’s better than 2005, no matter how good your 2005 may have been. I know mine was incredible, so if 2006 is anywhere near as good, I’ll be just as tired and penniless in 365 days time.

As far as New Year’s Eve goes, for the first time ever my partner and I spent the night in by ourselves drinking wine and eating good food and generally relaxing, after a hectic week of returning from the UK, (literally) going straight into work from the airport, and the previous night at another Southern All Star’s gig. More of that in another post.
