Whilst wandering listlessly through Bic Camera at Yurakucho last week, I somehow managed to find myself in a sea of mouse pads. Actually, I’m not sure what the group term is for a number of mouse pads (herd? flock?), but whatever it is, that’s where I was, and then by some incredible divine intervention I saw this:

A Yoshinoya mouse mat. Now, I love gyudon and butadon at least as much as the next man, but sadly I couldn’t bring myself to buy it. I feel like I’ve let the side down, and I apologise.

Many may know that a few weeks ago Yoshinoya and pretty much every purveyor of gyudon (sliced beef and onion on rice) stopped selling the delicious dish (or bowl) due to pretty much every cow (and many politicians) developing BSE.

However, following a tip-off from a friend (thanks Ueda-san), I took advantage of an introductory pricing offer (oomori for 350yen) and tried Yoshinoya’s new thing - butadon. Basically gyudon, but with pork instead of beef (and a few other herbs in my opinion). I have to say that I was impressed. Get to your nearest Yoshinoya now, and give it a go. Want something extra? Get a hanjuku tamago (soft boiled egg) to go with it.

((Apologies for all the brackets above.))
